Former Mexican president brands Trump ‘imperialistic gringo’

Asked to rate GOP presidential hopeful Donald Trump’s Monday debate performance, former Mexican President Vicente Fox called the candidate a danger to the entire world.

Leaving unanswered why we care what a former Mexican president thinks about the current U.S. election, The Washington Post reached out to Fox on Tuesday to have him rate Trump’s performance.

The U.S.’s political left has continuously used Fox as a pawn since he garnered outsized attention in May for an expletive-laden denouncement of Trump’s plan to secure the southern border.

“I’m not going to pay for the f**king wall,” Fox said at the time. “And please don’t take out the f**king full word.”

For Clinton supporters, his most recent comments on the Trump campaign were equally satisfying.

“My impression was the beauty and the beast,” Fox said of the debate. “Hillary Clinton was gracious, she looked very presidential, and he was very clumsy and poor in his presentation. … She really looked like a statesman, and he looked very poor.”

Fox, who has compared Trump to Hugo Chavez in the past, went on to say that establishment political leaders throughout the world share the view that Trump is a global threat.

“We think he’s a danger. He’s a threat to the world. … When he speaks about geoeconomic situation and the geopolitical situation and terrorism, he’s absolutely ignorant, and he’s only provoking us democratic leaders from around the world to reject everything he’s proposing,” he said.

“He is an imperialistic gringo,” the former Mexican president added.

It’s worth noting that one of the main criticisms lobbed at Trump by the U.S. political establishment is that some of the proposals he talks about could actually send the U.S. in a less imperialistic direction.

For example, Trump has called for the U.S. to diminish its military support of NATO allies to free up resources for his decidedly America First domestic policy proposals.

Clinton, meanwhile, has a long track record of supporting U.S. interventionism and meddling in the affairs of foreign governments.
