Congressman: Hillary’s ‘experience’ disqualifies her

Former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton replying “What difference does it make?” when asked what caused the attack on Benghazi by a Senate committee Jan. 23, 2013

The first words on Hillary Clinton’s campaign website about her are boasts of her experience as senator, secretary of state, first lady, law professor and “activist.”

She raised the subject at the first presidential debate on Monday night, noting the 112 countries she visited as secretary of state.

But it’s that very experience that disqualifies her from the presidency, contends a congressman in a newspaper op-ed published Tuesday, hours after the debate.

U.S. Rep. Jim Jordan, R-Ohio, a member of the Benghazi Select Commission and the chief of the House Freedom Caucus, said the Benghazi calamity, an issue moderator Lester Holt did not raise, showed Clinton is willing to make decisions and take actions based not on what’s best for America, but on politics.

“The entirety of her pitch seems to be that she’s the most qualified candidate due to her record as a U.S. senator and secretary of state. But, in reality, it is her record as secretary of state that disqualifies her from consideration,” he wrote.

He said one need look no further than Libya.

“For Clinton it was simple: Libya was supposed to be the crowning jewel of the Clinton/Obama foreign policy. It was the perfect example of how it’s supposed to work: no boots on the ground, oust a dictator, and help usher in the Arab spring.”

But then, after months of “numerous warnings” were ignored by the Clinton State Department, Benghazi happened.

“On Sept. 11, 2012, Ambassador Chris Stevens’ residence in Benghazi was overrun in a coordinated terrorist assault carried out by an al-Qaida-aligned group. The attack claimed the lives of Stevens and Sean Smith, a U.S. foreign service officer. The residence was torched and the ambassador was dragged through the streets. Stevens was the first U.S. ambassador to be killed in the line of duty since 1979.

“Next, the coordinated terrorist attack hit the CIA annex building, roughly a mile away, where occupants endured hours of assault. That attack ultimately claimed the lives of CIA contractors and former Navy SEALs Tyrone Woods and Glen Doherty,” he wrote.

That’s when the “political spin” was launched in Washington.

“While Woods was still on the roof of the CIA annex fighting for his life, Clinton, presidential adviser Ben Rhodes, and other Obama administration officials were trying to reclaim the narrative with a 10:08 p.m. State Department press release. They would soon go on television and blame the coordinated terrorist assault on a YouTube video, claiming the attack started as a spontaneous protest in response to the video.”

Imagine, the congressman said, a “spontaneous protest using rocket-propelled grenades, mortars, and truck-mounted artillery.”

He noted Clinton allowed one story to be told to the American people “while she told a very different story – the truth – privately.”

“She and her cohorts publicly blamed ‘inflammatory material posted on the Internet’ even as privately she told her daughter that terrorists had killed our people. She also told the Egyptian prime minister that it was a planned attack, not a protest.”

At Monday’s debate, GOP candidate Donald Trump acknowledged Clinton has experience but argued it’s not the kind of experience America wants in the White House, calling it “bad experience.”

“Repeatedly, she claimed there was no information to suggest it was a pre-planned attack – despite a senior State Department official in Libya saying it was a well-planned attack.”

Jordan pointed out the attack “took place 56 days before a presidential election and the Clinton/Obama foreign policy legacy was on the line.”

“At every turn Clinton was more concerned with politics than getting the truth to the American people – including the victims’ families,” Jordan wrote.

“When Sean Smith’s remains were being returned to the United States, Clinton told his mother that the video was responsible. She also told Tyrone Woods’ father that she was going to have the filmmaker responsible arrested, knowing full well that this was a coordinated terrorist attack and that no U.S. forces had taken off before the attack had ended.

“For Clinton, politics trumped the truth and honoring the memories of the lives lost in Benghazi. That alone disqualifies her from ever being commander-in-chief,” he said.

WND recently reported that Clinton now is fighting a claim brought by families of Benghazi victims for wrongful death.

WND reported the federal court declared Clinton in default. The ruling, however, did not immediately establish liability, and she has responded to the court that there are several reasons she should be given a pass for missing the deadline.

The claims were brought by the parents of two of the Americans killed by Islamic terrorists in Benghazi.

The case was filed in the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia by lawyer Larry Klayman of Freedom Watch USA on behalf of Patricia Smith, the mother of Sean Smith, and Charles Woods, the father of Tyrone Woods. The parents cite the FBI’s determination that Clinton’s handling of classified information through the use of a nonsecure, private email server was “extremely careless.”

Smith and Woods were killed in the Sept. 11, 2012, jihadist attack on the American compound in Benghazi. While Clinton and other Obama administration officials were publicly blaming the deaths on a response to an obscure YouTube video, internal communications show they knew immediately that it was a terrorist attack.

The wrongful death claim also alleges defamation and intentional and negligent infliction of emotional distress.

“Having used a secret private email server that we now know was used to communicate with Ambassador Christopher Stevens with confidential and classified government information, and which we also now know was likely hacked by hostile adversaries such as Iran, Russia, China and North Korea aligning with terrorist groups, it is clear that Hillary Clinton allegedly negligently and recklessly gave up the classified location of the plaintiffs’ sons, resulting in a deadly terrorist attack that took their lives. It is no coincidence that covert State Department/CIA operations were being run out of Benghazi,” Klayman said.

“To add insult to deadly injury, Hillary Clinton told the plaintiffs that their sons were killed as the result of a video mocking the Islamic prophet Mohammed when she knew that they were murdered by Muslim terrorists. When the families exposed her lies, she called them liars to protect her reputation and to further her own presidential ambitions. She thus defamed the parents of fallen heroes Tyrone Woods and Sean Smith, and committed other wrongful acts, as alleged in the complaint.

“Hillary Clinton has been thus far fortunate, throughout her career, to escape the long arm of the law, believing and acting as if she is above the law. This time, her ‘luck’ has run out,” said Klayman

Klayman, too, had charged that it was all politics.

“Immediately after the attack, defendant Clinton, in an effort to save the re-election chances of President Barack Obama, and in turn, her own chances at the 2016 presidency, lied to plaintiffs and the public at large that the Benghazi attacks were caused by Islamic reaction over an anti-Muslim YouTube video … these lies were perpetrated despite the fact that she knew immediately that this video was actually not the cause of the attack – information that she shared with the prime minister of Egypt and her own daughter, Chelsea Clinton, but hid from plaintiffs and the public at large.

“Clinton even promised plaintiffs that the person responsible for the video would be arrested. … Woods recorded the conversation with defendant Clinton contemporaneously in his diary,” Klayman wrote.
