Fed up with husband Anthony Weiner’s latest sexting scandal, top Hillary Clinton adviser Huma Abedin on Monday revealed she is separating from him.
Her statement, released just hours after the New York Post broke the story of Weiner’s latest sexting scandal, said, “After long and painful consideration and work on my marriage, I have made the decision to separate from my husband. Anthony and I remain devoted to doing what is best for our son, who is the light of our life. During this difficult time, I ask for respect for our privacy.”
The word came only hours after Weiner found himself in the spotlight again, and again for the same negative reason.
“While his wife, Huma Abedin, is off campaigning for former secretary of State Hillary Clinton, the New York Post reported Weiner has been sexting another woman –at one point posting a raunchy selfie with his 4-year-old son in the background,” USA Today said. “The Post published the selfie, which shows Weiner with a bulge wearing only white boxer briefs. His son is lying next to him in a green blanket. The tabloid also shared screenshots of the pair’s exchanges, which began in late January 2015 after Weiner direct messaged her on Twitter. Their conversations continued through earlier this month.”
Abedin, herself, has been under fire lately for some of the emails she exchanged with Hillary Clinton and the Clinton Foundation, and multiple investigations continue into whether those scenarios offended the law or ethics.
The Daily Mail said Abedin’s decision “finally” came after “her husband … sent an admirer a photo of his crotch while their four-year-old son slept beside him.”
It was the third time Weiner has been caught in such situations, including the one earlier that forced his resignation from Congress.
And pundits immediately jumped on his case.
“Huma has chosen Hillary over Weiner obviously in more ways than one,” said talk-show icon Rush Limbaugh. “I mean, the idea of the possibility of becoming Hillary’s chief of staff obviously is a very attractive thing particularly when Huma has not been chief of her husband’s staff, obviously, for quite a while.”
