Lois Lerner, the retired and disgraced former IRS official at the center of the political discrimination scandal involving conservative nonprofits, hid a private email account she used to conduct official business.
That’s the most recent revelation to come out of a long-running lawsuit filed by Judicial Watch, which has pushed for the disclosure of all of Lerner’s emails — which she claims are forever lost — relating to the scandal.
The Washington Times reported Monday that Lerner had created the hidden email account under the name “Toby Miles” — a name later revealed by other sources to belong to her dog.

IRS lawyer Geoffrey J. Klimas told the court that as the agency was putting together a set of documents to turn over to Judicial Watch, it realized Ms. Lerner had used yet another email account, in addition to her official one and another personal one already known to the agency.
“In addition to emails to or from an email account denominated ‘Lois G. Lerner‘ or ‘Lois Home,’ some emails responsive to Judicial Watch’s request may have been sent to or received from a personal email account denominated ‘Toby Miles,’” Mr. Klimas told Judge Emmet G. Sullivan, who is hearing the case.
National Review reported Tuesday that those close to Lerner confirm that Toby Miles is indeed Lerner’s dog’s name. “‘Toby Miles,’ according to a former Lerner colleague, is the name of Lerner’s dog: Toby is the dog’s name, and Miles is the surname of Lerner’s husband, Michael Miles,” that report states.
Tom Fitton, president of Judicial Watch, told the press Monday the discovery of a second email address heaps incredulity on Lerner’s lost-email story — especially since the IRS has said it has disclosed all the information about Lerner’s electronic data that it can recover.
“It is simply astonishing that years after this scandal erupted we are learning about an account Lois Lerner used that evidently hadn’t been searched,” said Fitton, insinuating that the agency has continued to stall, while covering up the extent of the scandal.
