Former Speaker of the House Dennis Hastert is due to make his first appearance in court on Tuesday to plea to charges he lied to federal authorities.

Hastert’s accused of paying at least one individual some hush money to keep quiet about past actions. As WND previously reported, one woman just came forward and told ABC News her brother, who’s died of AIDS, told her Hastert sexually abused him while he was an equipment manager for the high school wrestling team the politico previously coached.

Tuesday’ arraignment in federal court will be the first public appearance Hastert’s made since the May 28 indictment was issued.

Federal officials accuse Hastert of paying $3.5 million to a person to hide “past misconduct,” the indictment reads, the Hill reported. The misconduct is not detailed, but many are guessing it has to do with his days as a coach at Yorkville High School in Illinois.

Still, the federal authorities aren’t accusing Hastert of sexual abuse, but rather of making allegedly shady money transfers while working as a lobbyist in his post-Congress days, the Hill said. Feds say he set up his $3.5 million in bank withdrawals in a way that would avoid scrutiny and sidestep banking reporting requirements.

Hastert’s being represented by Thomas Green, a white-collar crime attorney with the Washingtobn-based Sidley Austin firm. The Hill reported the practice has ties to Chicago and has previously represented several members of Congress.

Hastert’s arraignment will be heard by U.S. District Court Judge Thomas Durkin.
