A pastor became so incensed at Rev. Al Sharpton’s call for donations during a rally against community violence he shouted amid the event: How dare you ask for money at this rally?
The rally was held in Hartford, Connecticut. And there, several speakers touched on the need to come together as a community and stand strong against the rising homicide rate – among them, Sharpton.
Speeches took a slight deviation from the topic, however, when several on stage mentioned the need for more money for Sharpton’s National Action Network. Mediaite reported. Sharpton himself at one point said all money raised would be given to the community, and then offered up $1,000.
Apparently, not all in the crowd thought it appropriate the speakers used the anti-violence rally to raise money. At one point, Pastor Marcus Moriah Jarvis shouted from the crowd:”Don’t you come up in here asking us for money!”
He later called Sharpton a “pimp” for fueling the money-raising efforts.
Jarvis later appeared on Fox News to elaborate on his views.
“We could do better as far as representation of the African-American community,” he told Greta Van Susteren. “We do have some charlatans and some pimps in the pulpit.”
