Monica Lewinsky jokes are back

(MSNBC) Monica Lewinsky is about to become a punchline and political ammo — again.

The onetime White House intern’s affair with then-President Bill Clinton got the former president impeached by the Republican-controlled House of Representatives and made her the butt of every tawdry joke for a decade. Lewinsky now advocates against the kind of bullying she endured, and works hard to stay out of the press outside of that work.

But with a woman whose marriage was intimately examined on the House floor in the late ’90s leading the Democratic Party race, and a Republican front-runner who champions gendered attacks and for whom nothing — not even whose wife is hotter — off limits, the Lewinsky scandal is back in the headlines.

In an wacky attempt to mock Donald Trump’s orange-hued tan, radio host Glenn Beck and his co-hosts smothered their faces in crushed Cheetos on Friday.

Beck and his buddies performed the stunt on his radio show, “The Glenn Beck Program.”

In a video of the episode posted on YouTube by RightWingWatch.org, Beck can be seen donning a set of swim goggles before he takes his Cheetos-dust plunge.

“After seeing Donald Trump on television, we thought, if you wore the swim goggles and you stuck your face in Cheetos, crushed Cheetos, that you would look just like Donald Trump in the end.”

One of Beck’s co-hosts noted that Daily Wire Editor Ben Shapiro first made the Cheetos-Trump connection.

After he had smothered his face in a pie plate of Cheetos, Beck emerged with a “dangerously cheesy” orange beard.

“The secret is, and I think Donald has mastered this, you have to roll your face in it,” Beck said. “You have to roll your face in it.”

Former GOP presidential candidate Marco Rubio made headlines in February when he mocked Trump’s spray tan after Trump teased him for wearing makeup to a debate.

“[It’s] amazing to me that the guy with the worst spray tan in America is attacking me for putting on makeup,” Rubio said at a campaign event in Kennesaw, Georgia.

Rubio added, “Donald Trump likes to sue people; he should sue whoever did that to his face.”

Meanwhile, over at Buzzfeed.com, staffer Jen Lewis used Photoshop to remove Trump’s tan and posted the result with the headline, “I Photoshopped Trump without his fake tan and now I can’t sleep at night”:

What? Public schools now encourage homeschooling?

booksgov

With a few notable exceptions, government schools have had an antagonistic relationship with homeschoolers, which is why a move by Indiana public educators to promote parental instruction has drawn attention.

It turns out, however, that Indiana school districts have been pushing underperforming and troublemaking students into homeschooling in an apparent attempt to improve the schools’ statistical performance marks.

The Home School Legal Defense Association, the world’s premiere advocate for homeschoolers, caught wind of the development and expressed opposition at a meeting of the Indiana Advisory Committee to the U.S. Commission on Civil Rights regarding homeschooling.

T.J. Schmidt, an HSLDA staff attorney, explained in a report that the advisory committee was discussing policies and practices that “push public schoolchildren out of classrooms and into the courts and on to prison.”

“Those concerned about this ‘pipeline’ typically identified two different types of students as being most vulnerable: 1) students whose lack of interest in school head them toward becoming dropouts or being expelled because of bad behavior, and 2) low-performing students who are pushed out in a perverse attempt by some school officials to boost their school’s overall test scores.”

See what American education has become, in “Crimes of the Educators: How Utopians Are Using Government Schools to Destroy America’s Children.”

Those scenarios only rarely have any direct connection to homeschooling, he said.

“True, we do regularly talk to and help plenty of fed-up parents who are trying to get their children out [of] a troubled situation in the public school. Many other parents we talk to are frustrated by the apparent inability of local school officials to address the specific needs of their children who struggle academically and make only minimal progress each year,” he said.

But Schmidt said homeschooling became part of the discussion in Indiana for a different reason.

“Some school corporations in Indiana appear to be actively pushing parents of troubled teens or underperforming students into homeschooling,” he explained.

“This allows the school corporation to treat these students as transfers instead of dropouts, thereby improving their graduation rates and lowering their dropout rates. Some schools even encouraged those they have expelled to begin homeschooling,” said Schmidt.

“Most school officials are not doing this to help these students but simply get them out of their system,” he said.

The problem was noticed by alert members of the Indiana Association of Home Educators, said Schmidt, who brought the issue to HSLDA.

As a result, the international organization was able to take part in a discussion of the issue.

Critics of homeschooling have contended “homeschooling needs increased government oversight.”

“Not surprisingly, when homeschooling was discussed at the civil rights advisory committee meeting, members heard a very inaccurate description of parents’ responsibilities for educating a child in Indiana,” Schmidt wrote. “In fact, the testimony referred to the status of homeschooling in Indiana as the ‘wild west’ and implied that homeschool students were destined to be lost without any chance of being educated.”

He submitted testimony explaining that Indiana law has treated homeschool parents the same as it treats most nonpublic schools for roughly 100 years.

“I informed the committee that state law requires parents operating a nonpublic (home) school program to provide ‘instruction equivalent to that given in the public schools.’”

He explained to the committee that homeschool parents in the U.S. spend more than $1 billion a year educating their children at home. And almost without exception, they are required to provide an education equivalent to that in public schools.

“Homeschooling is a fundamental right that is protected by the Indiana laws and the U.S. Constitution,” he told the committee. “The purpose of compulsory attendance laws in Indiana is to ensure that children be educationed, not that they should be educated in any particular way. The courts, the Constitution, and the Indiana statutes all indicate that parents have the right to control their children’s education, including the right to provide an education for them at home.”

See what American education has become, in “Crimes of the Educators: How Utopians Are Using Government Schools to Destroy America’s Children.”

HSLDA, which works with more than 2,300 families in Indiana, said the bottom line is that parents are required to provide a satisfactory education to their children, and there are ordinary procedures available to authorities to address the rare abuses.

Schmidt said HSLDA will monitor the committee’s report when it becomes available later this year.

Tahoe backtracks, allows owners to replace destroyed house

120221gavelconstitution

Government regulators of housing and development near South Lake Tahoe have reversed a ruling that prevented a couple from replacing a house on their land that was destroyed in a forest fire.

Teresa Avila-Burns and Ray Burns bought the property in foreclosure in 2009, two years after the house burned down. Their intent was to build a new home on the property for their elderly mothers.

But the Tahoe Regional Planning Agency ruled that the couple could not put a home on the same footprint because officials were worried about contaminating the water of Lake Tahoe, which is some five miles away.

Now the governmental agency has reversed itself, according to the Pacific Legal Foundation, which brought a case on behalf of the couple.

PLF had argued in a complaint that the TRPA was violating the Fifth Amendment by refusing to allow the home to be rebuilt after the couple bought the property out of foreclosure for that very purpose.

“As our lawsuit argued, TRPA was engaged in a clear-cut, unconstitutional taking,” said PLF staff attorney Christopher Kieser. “Because of the strength of our Fifth Amendment claim, TRPA started to backtrack soon after we filed our lawsuit.”

The Fifth Amendment prohibits the government from taking private property without paying for it. In this case, the agency was preventing the couple from using their land.

TRPA eventually proposed a settlement that will allow the couple to build a house on the property near the place where the original house stood, PLF said.

“Before turning to PLF for help, Ray and Teresa had wrangled with the regulators for years,” Kieser said. “Now, faced with being hauled before a court, TRPA is finally recognizing this couple’s fundamental rights, so they can finally move ahead with their dream to build a Lake Tahoe home for their elderly mothers.”

What happens when the government breaks its own laws?” Judge Andrew Napolitano reveals the answer in “Constitutional Chaos.”

Even though the site, inside a developed residential area, had a home until the 2007 fire, the TRPA abruptly ruled that the parcel the Burns had purchased was entirely inside a “Stream Environment Zone” and so no building permit could be issued for the site.

The Pacific Legal Foundation argued in court that there are ways for government to take private property for essential government functions, but if the Burns case applied, the government was constitutionally required to pay fair compensation.

In their settlement offer, the building regulators agreed that the Burns could use 3,100 square feet of their land for development, including a house with a footprint of 2,435 square feet.

That gives the couple “enough room to build a house near the same place on the property that the previous home had stood,” PLF said.

“This settlement is an enormous win for us and for the rights of all property owners,” Teresa Avila-Burns said in a statement released by PLF. “Ray and I really did have all of our property rights taken away by the regulators, and there was no chance our rights would be restored if PLF had not gone to bat for us.”

WND reported when the case was filed that the regional agency had banned building on the property only after the couple had bought the land out of foreclosure in 2009.

They had been told by several regulators they could build and spent $1,400 on a building “right,” one of several that was allocated under a program to control building projects.

What happens when the government breaks its own laws?” Judge Andrew Napolitano reveals the answer in “Constitutional Chaos.”

Then the agency said it would not allow them to build and would not compensate them for restricting the use of their land.

The case highlighted the problem with the government agency’s designation of the land as a “Stream Environment Zone.” The parcel is located about 5.3 miles from Lake Tahoe. Between the parcel and the lake lies the city of South Lake Tahoe, with substantial urban commercial and residential development.

The couple’s lawyers noted the parcel not only is inside a developed subdivision, it is “on a major paved street, with concrete curbs, and a driveway curb cut into the property.”

“It has electrical service, public water, public sewer, and telephone services. Most surrounding parcels are developed with existing single-family homes.”

Teresa, a nurse, and Ray, a construction project manager, long had vacationed in the area and had dreamed a buying land there. Their opportunity came in 2009 when the land came available under a foreclosure process that followed the wildfire.

They hired a designer, bought a housing allocation from El Dorado County, as TRPA instructed, and were making construction plans.

Then the TRPA suddenly determined the land was in the stream zone, and no building would be allowed.

Café owners get threats after Islamic ‘hate’ accusation

A controversy has erupted following a Muslim woman’s claim that she and her friends were asked to leave a popular California restaurant after 45 minutes because they are Muslim, with the owner rejecting the accusation and his lawyer warning that such charges can prompt criminal acts against his clients.

“This appears to be inciting violence against our client,” lawyer Larry Klayman told WND of the dispute that erupted between a customer, Sara Farsakh, and the Urth Café in Laguna Beach.

Here’s one image of a threat, warning the “clock is ticking:”

Urththreat32

Farsakh posted a video on Facebook suggesting she and her friends were discriminated against because they are Muslim, and shortly after the Council on American-Islamic Relations for the Los Angeles area got involved.

Its statement expressed it was “deeply concerned that a group of Muslim women were kicked out of Urth Caffe while they were still eating.”

The Islam advocacy organization noted that the café posts a policy that patrons must relinquish their seats after 45 minutes at certain times, but claimed, “the group inquired about the policy … [and] were taken aback because the café was not busy, there were plenty of seats available both inside and outside the restaurant and several patrons who had arrived before the group had not been asked to leave.”

The claim continued, “In fact two different groups approached the Muslim patrons and informed them that they had arrived before them and had not been asked to leave.”

However, restaurateur Shallom Berkman, whose clientele in Laguna Beach includes a significant percentage of Muslims and who is working with investors in Saudi Arabia on a restaurant there, told reporters he’s a Jew with a Muslim wife and they considering themselves “a sign of world peace.” He confirmed there were customers waiting, and said the policy simply is there to “make things fair and accommodate everyone who wants to enjoy Urth Café.”

He said the 12 women in the group were not asked to leave because they are Muslim, and he worried about their offended feelings, offering Farsakh a meal – on the house.

Here are the woman’s claims, posted online:

);

But Klayman said the issues are little more complicated, and being publicly accused of being anti-Muslim these days can trigger violence.

He cited recent terror attacks by Muslims on innocent people in San Bernardino, Paris, Brussels, and more.

And he confirmed there already had been threats against his clients.

Klayman, who said several Muslims have come forward too side with the restaurant owners on the issue, told WND his clients are considering whether, and how, they should respond to the circumstances that have created the threats against them.

“This is a very serious matter,” Klayman told WND. “It has been reported at the highest levels of the FBI.”

A report from ABC said the outrage generated by Farsakh’s decision to go public on Facebook with the video “prompted Yelp to block anyone from reviewing Urth Caffe so that people wouldn’t post their views on the news story.”

The OC Weekly revealed in its report how the 45-minute policy is publicly posted by the restaurant.

“During our busy rush times, if you have already been at a table for 45 minutes or longer, please share or give your table to someone who is waiting. If tables are available, you are certainly welcome to enjoy Urth for as long as you desire,” it states.

The restaurant called police and had them ask the women to leave when they refused to comply with a manager’s request regarding the policy, multiple reports say.

But commentator Daniel Greenfield at Front Page Mag jumped right to the point, headlining a commentary “Another Muslim ‘minor inconvenience hate’ hoax gets shot down.”

“Actual minorities have hate crimes. Muslims mainly seem to have minor inconveniences. Like the Muslim passenger who was supposedly refused a can of diet coke by the flight attendant… only because she was Muslim. Or the Muslim who allegedly suffered a dirty look. Or were asked to leave a coffee shop after 45 minutes of hogging a table,” he wrote.

“For some reason, this incredibly Islamophobic coffee shop let her and her friends order, sit and hang out for 45 minutes. And then only asked them to leave after 45 minutes. Which is the policy,” he wrote. “I’m sure Obama will be commenting on this before long. Because tragic minor inconveniences of hate like this cannot and must not be tolerated. Muslims should receive special exemption from all normal rules, whether while flying or at restaurants. The failure to respect Muslim Privilege is itself discriminatory.”

Klayman noted that the damage already is being done to the restaurant because of the woman’s claims, citing online reviews making “racist” “prejudice” “outright racist” “xenophobic” and more accusations.

Trump talks ‘America first’ with Savage after protests

Protesters outside the California Republican Convention at the Hyatt Regency in Burlingame, California, April 29, 2016.

On the runway preparing for takeoff from San Francisco after angry street protesters forced him to hop a fence to get to his speaking engagement at the California Republican Convention, GOP presidential primary front-runner Donald Trump spoke with talk-radio host Michael Savage.

Savage began by asking Trump to comment on the protests Friday morning outside the Hyatt Regency Hotel in Burlingame, where some 100 demonstrators blocked streets, chanted and waved signs with messages such as “Dump Trump” and “Racist rhetoric not welcome here.”

But Trump apparently didn’t want to talk about eluding the protesters.

Instead he responded to Savage’s question by reiterating his complaint about the primary system run by the states, which has allowed rival Sen. Ted Cruz to garner delegates in some states without a popular vote.

“Well, it’s terrible, you have Lyin’ Ted Cruz – he’s got millions of votes less than me, hundreds of delegates less, and they try and steal an election. It’s a rigged system,” Trump said.

“But we have so much more. I think we get it right on the first ballot, Mike,” he said. “We’re going to get it right on the first. We’re way over.”

Sign up now for the free “Savage Nation” daily email newsletter!

Savage said he and some of his callers were “moved” by Trump’s foreign policy speech Wednesday at the Mayflower Hotel in Washington, D.C., in which he laid out his “America first” vision.

Referring to Trump’s vow in the speech to revamp NATO, Savage asked him how he would make the other NATO members pay their “fair share.”

“Ask them, Michael,” Trump said. … “You gotta say, ‘Look, we’re not going to protect you.’ We can’t be taken advantage of anymore, Michael. In NATO, they have 28 nations. We can’t be taken advantage of, with any of these nations, getting protection and not paying what they’re supposed to be paying as for our agreement.

“All of that’s going to stop,” Trump said. “And so many other things are going to stop, that we’re going to make great trade deals, and we’ll make our nation rich again.”

Trump said bad trade deals with China and others have made America a “debtor nation.”

“We owe $19 trillion, and then the NATO nations, many of those nations – and I mean really many – they’re not paying what they are supposed to,” he said. “So they think the United States is led by maybe stupid people or weak people, and they won’t ask.

“But I’ll be asking for the back pay also.”

‘America first’

Savage recounted his remark to his listeners Wednesday that after the foreign-policy speech that Trump’s “America first” philosophy was misinterpreted as isolationist.

He argued Trump’s policy is “based more on making America’s interests dominant, not subservient.”

Trump replied: “I’m not an isolationist … but I am a person that wants fairness for our country and our people and for our taxpayers. And we can continue to go on like this.”

Savage asked Trump about his desire to seek peace, prosperity and trade with Russia rather than provocation.

“Well, look, you know, Russia can do a lot of good for us,” Trump said. “I mean, when I heard six months ago they wanted to bomb the hell out of ISIS, and maybe they had other things in mind, also, because, you know, they have a different view on Syria than our so-called leaders, and, you know, frankly, our people ought to start rethinking their whole policy. But ISIS, they want to bomb, and we had people saying we don’t want them to bomb ISIS. And I’m saying, ‘What are these people thinking about?

Michael Savage’s primer for the 2016 election, “Government Zero: No Borders, No Language, No Culture,” is available at the WND Superstore

‘We never walk from the table’

Making the case further for cooperating with Russia on defeating ISIS, Trump asked, “First of all, do you know how expensive it is?

“I mean, so expensive that Russia sort of left a little bit earlier, I think, earlier than they were going to – and I’ll bet you that was a cost problem. But, here’s the thing, Michael, wouldn’t it be great if we got along with Russia?

“You know, Putin said very nice things about me. It has zero influence. He actually called me a genius, but that’s OK. Has zero influence on me, Michael, zero,” Trump continued.

“But if we can make good deals. And you know what? If we can’t, I’ll know almost instantaneously, and I’ll walk from the table.”

The problem with the U.S. and European powers’ negotiations with Iran over its nuclear program, Trump said, is “we never walked from the table.”

“We don’t walk. We never walk, we just keep agreeing to whatever they want,” he said.

Savage contrasted Trump’s philosophy with President Obama’s, which he dubbed “America Last.”

Trump said in his speech Wednesday that Obama “gutted our missile defense program then abandoned our missile-defense plans with Poland and the Czech Republic.”

“He supported the ouster of a friendly regime in Egypt that had a longstanding peace treaty with Israel – and then helped bring the Muslim Brotherhood to power in its place,” Trump continued.

“Israel, our great friend, and the one true democracy in the Middle East, has been snubbed and criticized by an administration that lacks moral clarity,” he said.

Wrapping up the interview, Trump told Savage he was on the runway preparing to head back to Indiana, whose primary Tuesday is widely regarded as a must-win for Cruz.

“We are doing great there,” Trump said. “We’re getting wonderful poll numbers. We have unbelievable people. We have, as you know, Bobby Knight. He endorsed me yesterday, and he’s fantastic. A real champion, a real winner.”

After the Indiana, the primary contests moves West, culminating in California June 7, where, Trump noted, according to a recent poll, he has 48 percent of the vote, compared with 20-something for both Cruz and Ohio Gov. John Kasich.

“So, it’s a lot of work,” Trump told Savage, “but the end result is we’re going to make America great again. And we’re going to make it great maybe than ever before.”

Hillary: I handle ‘men who get off the reservation’

Bill and Hillary Clinton

Bill and Hillary Clinton

Did Hillary just admit that her husband, former President Bill Clinton, has been a bit of a handful, considering his extracurricular activities with other women, and given her “a lot of experience” dealing with male misbehavior?

“Remember, I have a lot of experience dealing with men who sometimes get off the reservation in the way they behave and how they speak,” Clinton told CNN’s Jack Tapper Friday.

Her eyebrow-raising comments came during an interview discussing GOP front-runner Donald Trump attacking her as “Corrupt Hillary.”

Watch Hillary’s statements:

);

In the last week, Trump has also accused Hillary of using the “woman card” to win votes.

On Thursday, he told the “Today” show, “Without the woman’s card, Hillary would not even be a viable person to even run for city council positions. I think the only thing she has going for her is the fact that she’s a woman. She has done a terrible job in so many ways.”

“The Clinton’s War on Women” is available at the WND Superstore

As for men in Hillary’s life going off the reservation, WND has reported extensively on Bill Clinton’s sexual exploits through the years and how the couple even threatened women to stay silent about alleged sexual assaults at the hands of her husband.

Women in Clinton’s past were targeted by the IRS and reportedly found themselves on death lists. Clinton’s female sex-assault accusers were audited by the IRS – including Gennifer Flowers, Paula Jones, Juanita Broaddrick. Also added to the list of IRS targets was actress and former Miss America Elizabeth Ward Gracen, who had sex with Clinton in 1983 and was warned to keep quiet about the affair.

Trump has accused Hillary of enabling her husband.

“She’s not a victim. She was an enabler,” Trump told Fox News in January. “She worked with him. She was – some of the women have been totally destroyed. Some of these women have been destroyed. And Hillary worked with him.”

Here they are! Hillary’s 22 biggest scandals EVER

After learning of Bill’s affair with White House intern Monica Lewinsky in 1998, Hillary reportedly handled the situation by bloodying the former president’s head.

“There was blood all over the president and first lady’s bed,” wrote former White House reporter Kate Anderson Brower in her tell-all book, “The Residence: Inside the Private World of the White House.” “A member of the residence staff got a frantic call from the maid who found the mess. Someone needed to come quickly and inspect the damage. The blood was Bill Clinton’s. The president had to get several stitches in his head.”

Brower said White House  staffers believe Hillary walloped her husband over the head with one of the books she kept on her bedside table.

Mr. Clinton “insisted that he’d hurt himself running into the bathroom door in the middle of the night,” Brower wrote. “But not everyone was convinced. ‘We’re pretty sure she clocked him with a book,’ one worker said. … the incident came shortly after the president’s affair with a White House intern became public knowledge. … And there were at least twenty books on the bedside table … including the Bible.”

The ‘Stop Hillary’ campaign is on fire! Join the surging response to this theme: ‘Clinton for prosecution, not president’

Another staffer, White House florist Ronn Payne, also recalled a heated argument between Bill and Hillary.

“He was coming up the service elevator … as the Clintons argued viciously with each other. … [H]e heard the first lady bellow ‘goddamn bastard!’ at the president – and then he heard someone throw a heavy object across the room,” Brower wrote. “The rumor among the staff was that she threw a lamp. The butlers, Payne said, were told to clean up the mess. In an interview with Barbara Walters, Mrs. Clinton made light of the story … ‘I have a pretty good arm … If I’d thrown a lamp at somebody, I think you would have known about it.’”

Payne also recalled, “You heard so much foul language” in the Clinton White House.

And Hillary reportedly punished Bill in other ways, according to Brower: “For three or four months in 1998, the president slept on a sofa in a private study attached to their bedroom on the second floor. Most of the women on the residence staff thought he got what he deserved.”

At any rate, the former president appears to have fared better than another man in Hillary’s life who apparently went off the reservation – former deputy White House counsel Vince Foster.
