Chancellor Angela Merkel’s policy to open Germany’s borders to thousands of Muslim asylum seekers is leading to widespread discrimination and abuse of Christians living in the nation.
That’s according to news reports which detail crimes and threats against German Christians as well as Christian asylum-seekers who made their way to the country alongside the bourgeoning Islamic community welcomed by Merkel’s policies.
Bundestag member Erika Steinbach and Iranian-born pastor Mahin Mousapour held a press conference in the country earlier this week to draw attention to growing tension between the new Muslim arrivals and Christians.
One of the biggest problems, according to Mousapour, is the way Muslims are treating the Christians they live alongside in migrant housing.
“Toys of Christian children are being destroyed, Christian asylum seekers are told not only to wash their dishes after eating but also that they must clean the entire kitchen as it would otherwise be ‘unclean’. Many Muslim asylum seekers call all Christians unclean. Church services are held in secret, bibles and crucifixes have to be hidden,” she said.
Steinbach is advocating for the deportation of Muslim refugees who are found guilty of harassing Christians in the country.
Meanwhile, some Germans are opting to leave Germany in favor of countries with stricter border policies.
According to German intelligence officials, attacks on Christians there are likely to intensify because there is a “very high” likelihood that Merkel’s policies have welcomed Islamic State “hit squads and sleeper cells” into the nation.
“We have to accept that we have hit squads and sleeper cells in Germany,” Manfred Hauser, the vice president of the Bavaria region’s intelligence gathering agency, BayLfV, told the BBC.
“We have substantial reports that among the refugees there are hit squads. There are hundreds of these reports, some from refugees themselves. We are still following up on these, and we haven’t investigated all of them fully,” Hauser said.
In the United States, Alabama Republican Sen. Jeff Sessions is warning a similar situation will arise thanks to President Barack Obama’s refugee policies.
Sessions office released a report this week revealing that the administration has already admitted more than 27,000 refugees with ties to five terror strongholds so far this fiscal year.
“Plainly, there is no way to properly vet these refugees. Our intelligence databases are only as good as the information that goes into them – meaning that the absence of derogatory information in our systems about an individual does not mean that admitting that individual carries no risk,” Sessions said.
The lawmaker said that the U.S. and its allies should refocus refugee resettlement efforts with an emphasis on providing “support to those who are displaced as close to their homes as possible.”
