Kaine appeals to black voters with faith story

(THE HILL) Democratic vice presidential nominee Tim Kaine knocked Republicans on voting rights Thursday, as he homed in on inequality during a speech in New Orleans.

“Both the Democratic and Republican parities have kind of been good on voting rights, until recently. … Especially until President Obama became president,” Kaine said at the annual Progressive National Baptist Convention, a group of African-American Baptist churches.

The Virginia senator added while Republicans have historically supported extending voting rights, they’ve “decided to do a U-turn on its history and be against voting and against participation, and put hurdles and barriers up in everybody’s way.”
