A judge ruled a case against Donald Trump over his Trump University may proceed.
A New York State Supreme Court justice ruled the case against Trump University, in which the billionaire businessman is accused of defrauding thousands of students out of tuition and fees, may in fact move forward.
And a prosecutor in the case called Justice Cynthia Kern’s determination a relief.
“I am very pleased the judge has indicated her intention to move as expeditiously as possible to trial, as thousands of Mr. Trump’s alleged victims have been waiting years for relief from his fraud,” said Attorney General Eric Schneiderman in a statement to the Daily Beast.
His suit alleges the college Trump established in partnership with Michael Sexton cheated thousands of students out of a total of $40 million.
Trump denies the charges and over the past months, has fought hard to keep the case from proceeding. He’s also declined any type of settlement.
His efforts faced a setback, with this judge’s ruling, which casts a slight shadow over his five-state sweep of Tuesday’s primary races – a massive win he said basically solidifies his nomination as the Republican Party presidential candidate.
Schneiderman is hoping to clinch his own win in court.
“We believe that Mr. Trump and Mr. [Michael] Sexton will be essential witnesses at trial,” he said, to the Daily Beast. “As we will prove in court, Donald Trump and his sham for-profit college defrauded thousands of students out of millions of dollars.”
Trump is also being named in two separate class-action suits in Californai over the same Trump University fraud allegations.
