With America only five days from the biggest prize so far of the 2016 primary season – Super Tuesday – Republican candidates are scheduled to appear in Houston, Texas, at a high-stakes debate Thursday evening.
Donald Trump, Marco Rubio, Ted Cruz, Ben Carson and John Kasich will face off in the event hosted by CNN, Telemundo and Salem Radio beginning at 8:30 p.m. EST. The debate, set to be broadcast in English and Spanish, will be held at the University of Houston’s Moores Opera Center.
CNN’s Wolf Blitzer will moderate, and Telemundo’s Maria Celeste Arraras, Salem talk-radio host Hugh Hewitt and CNN chief political correspondent Dana Bash will ask questions of the candidates. CNN is asking viewers to submit questions for the contenders. The debate will air on CNN and be streamed live at Go.CNN.com.
The event comes two days after Trump steamrolled through the Nevada caucuses Tuesday with 45.9 percent of the vote. Rubio came in second at 23.9 percent and Cruz third at 21.4 percent. Carson and Kasich received 4.8 percent and 3.6 percent respectively.
Trump’s Nevada win rattled China, which warned the U.S. of the fallout from adopting punitive currency policies that could harm U.S.-China relations, the Washington Free Beacon reported. Trump has repeatedly said he will punish China for its currency manipulation and impose a 45 percent tariff on Chinese goods.
Following his Tuesday win, Trump secured his first two endorsements from members of Congress: Reps. Chris Collins, R-N.Y., and Duncan Hunter, R-Calif.
March 1 marks Super Tuesday, a group of 12 Democrat and Republican primaries and caucuses that includes the following states: Alabama, Alaska, Arkansas, Colorado, Georgia, Massachusetts, Minnesota, Oklahoma, Tennessee, Texas, Vermont and Virginia.
