IRS computer glitch puts temporary halt on refunds

The IRS is facing service disruptions.

The IRS, facing computer problems, put a halt to accepting paperwork filed electronically, meaning refund seekers could see a brief delay in receiving their money.

The agency said a “hardware failure” led to the service disruptions, which aren’t expected to be “major,” the Associated Press reported.

The IRS.gov website is operative, but the site where filers go to receive updates on their filings, the “where’s my refund” webpage, is not working.

The IRS expects service to return to normal sometime this week.

“The IRS is currently in the process of making repairs and working to restore normal operations as soon as possible,” the agency said in a statement, AP reported.

The IRS also said those who’ve filed already should receive their refunds within three weeks.
