Statism and Flint River

The statist puts his faith in government.

Corporations are evil. More government regulation will reign in evil corporations.

Corporations are only interested in the bottom line. More government regulation — or higher taxes or a higher minimum wage, etc. — will make those corporations use their wealth for better purposes than lining their own pockets.

Corporations are interested only in profits. Higher corporate taxes for revenue to the government to be distributed by the government for altruistic purposes will benefit more people.

The free market benefits only the corporations. More government regulation and higher corporate taxes benefit the people.

Corporations are run by greedy, uncaring people. More government is needed to keep them in check.

That’s because government’s motivation — unlike that of the corporation — is to help the people. Government wants to feed the poor. Government wants to house the homeless. Government wants to protect us all from harm… protect us from ourselves. Government is good. More government is better.

This is the mind of the statist. And statists are not just “liberals” or “leftists” or “Democrats,” though most who adhere to the philosophy of the left would readily admit to being statists. No, there are statist “Republicans” and statists who consider themselves conservative and even libertarian.

This is the system we are born into so, it’s not surprising so many accept this as truth. When we are born into a system, we have no imperative to inquire. We automatically and unconsciously assume that things that are have always been.

The system is prescribed. We accept it and it becomes a part of us. We do not feel animosity or hostility toward authority that we are born under. We are all born into “conventional wisdom.” Every bit of information we get from the very beginning of our existence “sells” us on authority. This goes on through “public education” and throughout life. The only acceptable social and moral thing to do is to accept authority, conform to authority and, above all, never question authority, let alone its morality and its modus operandi.

Men, by nature, are followers. Therefore, when authority appears, they follow. Does this explain the phenomenon that is Donald Trump?

When absolute authority emerges, the people follow without question and even to the point of self-sacrifice. Millions will give their own lives and those of their sons and daughters in war and never question or consider what they are doing. The mystique of government authority holds in its hands life and death — ours.

In the course of understanding our relationship to government, we at some point have to drop the facade of political idealism. We have to reduce our mental processes to a consideration of first cause.

Whatever the stated cause of government, it degenerates into a colossal parasite that is immoral, illegal, fraudulent and deceptive. By nature and by definition, government under any name is oppressive. In time, we come to understand that it cannot be otherwise.

Government has to extract its substance from the workers and producers of wealth. The compelling authority of government is not legal or moral. It is organized force and intimidation. Government force is derived from sophisticated mind-altering techniques that cause the people to “volunteer” the transfer of their wealth and assets to the government. Government force is a deceptive and esoteric system of getting people to act upon fictions that they cannot understand. Failure to do so carries civil and criminal penalties.

But there are no penalties for government malfeasance.

Take the Flint River contaminated water situation. Cash-strapped Flint, Michigan, opted in 2013 to change its source of drinking water from Detroit Water and Sewerage to the Karegnondi Water Authority. But the city couldn’t connect to Karegnondi until 2016.

So the city, operating under emergency managers appointed by the governor, opted to save money and get its water from the highly toxic Flint River. Out of the gate, Flint residents noticed their water looked, tasted and smelled funny. Children began to be afflicted with unexplained rashes. Many started getting ill.

Turns out, although the Michigan Department of Environmental Quality — the agency charged with keeping the drinking water safe — knew the water was corrosive and contained lead leached from the water pipes even before it began delivering water to the citizens, it failed to follow protocol to treat the water for corrosion. It knew from the get-go that the water was hazardous to health.

Turns out the Environmental Protection Agency, the federal agency tasked with overseeing MDEQ and making sure the drinking water is safe, knew as early as last April that the water was likely poisoning Flint residents with lead and other toxins, and sat on the report for months.

Isn’t it wonderful to know that government men aren’t concerned with the bottom line, only want what’s best for us and are looking out for our well-being no matter what? Isn’t it wonderful to know we have government protecting us?
