A Secret Service agent with the Presidential Protective Division was robbed of his gun, badge and other sensitive material near the White House on Monday.

A man reached into the agent’s parked car on G Place in downtown Washington yesterday afternoon and grabbed a bag from inside. Its contents included a Sig Sauer handgun, an APX6000 radio, handcuffs, a USB flash drive, a black Patagonia bag and a Secret Service badge, number 1266, CNN reported.

The theft occurred just weeks after a bipartisan report released by the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform concluded President Obama’s Secret Service is an “agency in crisis.” The document covered an extensive list of security lapses over the past two years revealed at least a half-dozen more that were previously unknown to the public.

“The agency’s recent public failures are not a series of isolated events, but the product of an insular culture that has historically been resistant to change,” the report read, WND reported.

“The situation is getting worse not better,” Rep. Jason Chaffetz, R-Utah, chairman of the Oversight Committee, told the Washington Post Dec. 3. “The president is in jeopardy, and he better personally get involved in fixing this.”

A Metropolitan Police Department report was filed hours after Monday’s robbery. The agent, who is not named in the report, said the back window of his car had been “unzipped,” CNN reported.

Dan Bongino’s “Life Inside the Bubble: Why a Top-Ranked Secret Service Agent Walked Away From It All” is a look at life inside the presidential “bubble,” a haze of staffers, consultants, cronies, acolytes, bureaucrats and lobbyists that creates the “alternate reality” in which monumental policy decisions are made.

The Secret Service declined Tuesday to respond to the network’s request for comment.
