In a speech in Mesa, Arizona, last week, Donald Trump suggested the people of Kentucky should replace Sen. Rand Paul of Kentucky with “a Republican.”
Paul is one of the most conservative members of the senate, if not all of congress, not that that is saying a lot. But if Paul is replaced, it’s doubtful it would be with anyone more conservative.
Were Trump a conservative, one would think he would want as many conservatives in Congress as possible to help him advance a conservative agenda. Instead, he proposes Kentuckians replace Paul with “a Republican” — maybe a Republican more like Senate Majority leader and turtle-resembling Mitch McConnell, who has not been the target of Trump’s ire?
Trump is no conservative. But Paul is, and he’s not afraid to call out efforts to subvert the Constitution when he sees them. Trump knows that, should he be elected, Paul will stand on principal to oppose his constitutional violations. And they will come, probably at a faster pace than even those by the undocumented usurper currently despoiling the People’s House.
And make no mistake. The Constitution means nothing to Trump. I doubt he’s even read it.
Trump is about Trump and power. That’s all he cares about.
Those who think Trump “will save us” are being sold down the river.
