Young women are failing to appreciate Hillary’s greatness

America’s youngest generation of voters sees a female president as such an inevitability that they’re more patient than older demographics about waiting for the right candidate. And for many, the right candidate is someone besides Hillary Clinton.

That’s The Hill’s takeaway after analyzing an NBC News survey that shows millennial-age voters favor Democrat Bernie Sanders to Hillary Clinton by a 48 percent to 33 percent margin.

“The historic nature of Clinton’s campaign doesn’t resonate with millennial women the same way it does with other women, say strategists, because young woman believe someone will break the Oval Office glass ceiling even if it doesn’t happen in 2016,” the report states.

Perhaps that’s encouraging news to other women, like Republican Carly Fiorina, with presidential ambitions — although the polling, so far, hasn’t reflected that. Then again, the younger a voter demographic skews, the more likely that demographic will eschew Republican candidates.

While that’s a perennial strategic problem for Republicans, the polls show that Hillary has a youth problem of her own. It’s not that she’s viewed as “too old” based on her age alone — after all, she’s 68, while Bernie Sanders is 74.

Rather, it’s Hillary’s baggage. To younger voters, she seems to represent the old views of old regimes.

“To them [young voters] it seems obvious and indisputable that if Clinton doesn’t win, some other woman will, and soon,” a Clinton supporter and Democratic strategist told The Hill.

Why? Because, said the strategist: Hillary’s “too old, too moderate and too caught up in another time.”
