Ben Carson, who just moved into third place in recent presidential polls, said on a Wednesday morning Fox & Friends interview his recent remarks about a Muslim in the White House haven’t exactly dampened dollar donations – and in fact, the money’s been flying in to campaign coffers.
“The money’s been coming in so fast it’s hard to keep up with it,” Carson said, to host Brian Kilmeade. “I remember the day of the last debate. Within 24 hours we raised a million dollars, and it’s coming in at least at that rate, if not faster.”
And his super PAC sent out message saying there has been a surge in voter support, as evidenced by the swell of financial contributions to his campaign, Fox News reported.
Carson, who’s been dinged by mainstream media and political opponents in recent days because he said he would not support a Muslim as president of the United States – unless that Muslim vowed to put Shariah law second to the Constitution – also confirmed, once again, he’s not renouncing that view.
“I never said a person could not run for office,” he said, addressing those critics who misinterpreted his statement as contrary to the Constitution. “I just said I wouldn’t support them. Do I not have a right to support who I want to support?”
He also doubled down on a view WND reported he expressed Tuesday – that those in the politically correct crowd were driving the furor over his comments. And after experiencing a few days of their angst?
Carson still said he’s not backing down.
“I’ve come to be familiarized with the P.C. culture and I’m willing to fight it,” he said.
