Former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee, who’s been hovering in the middle of the poll pack for Republican pick for president, has settled on his best campaign strategy for dealing with Donald Trump, the clear leader of the candidates, and his plan is short and sweet and easy to remember: “You don’t worry” about him, he said.
His advisement came in response to a question on the campaign trail from a reporter about how best to approach and best the Donald’s high poll numbers.
“You don’t worry about Donald Trump,” he said, adding to do so would be the “dumbest thing” any of the candidates for president could do, NBC News reported.
“He’s a force to be reckoned with, but you don’t reckon with him by dealing with it,” he said, during a “Fox News Sunday” interview with Shannon Bream.
Huckabee went on: “He’s getting 10 times the amount of coverage than any candidate is getting and the dumbest thing a candidate can do right now is give him more coverage by answering all the Trump questions,” NBC News said.
Better, Huckabee said, is to deal with personal policies and platforms.
“In time, that’s what’s going to be more important than simply reacting to any other candidate,” Huckabee said. “We need to be swimming in our own lane.”
