Obama uses N-word in talk about racism

President Obama chose a curious means of underscoring his view that America still has a long way to go to heal race relations, slinging the N–word while discussing the perceived ongoing fight against “Jim Crow” views with a local podcast host.

“The legacy of slavery, Jim Crow, discrimination – is in almost every institution of our lives – that casts a long shadow, that’s still part of our DNA, that’s passed on,” he said, to “WTF Podcast” host Marc Maron.

He went on: “Racism, we are not cured of it. And it’s not just a matter of it not being polite to say nigger in public. That’s not the measure of whether racism still exists or not. It’s not just a matter of overt discrimination. Societies don’t overnight completely erase everything that happened 200 to 300 years prior.”

Obama then decried the mass shooting in Charleston once again, calling such gun-related incidents “unique to our country” and suggesting America ought to follow Australia’s lead and make dramatic changes to Second Amendment rights, the Hill said.

“[But] the grip of the NRA on Congress is extremely strong,” he said, the Hill reported.

Meanwhile, reaction to his N–word reference drew immediate fire.

David Webb, radio commentator and frequent television pundit, called Obama’s use of the word appalling.

“I’m wondering what groups the president engaged by using that word,” said Webb, referring to how only “thugs” and gang members generally sling the term with open abandon, during a “Fox & Friends” appearance. “You want the president to reflect the dignity of the office … This president went below the dignity of the office.”

Garland Nixon, another radio host appearing opposite Webb on “Fox & Friends,” found otherwise, saying it was “strategically wise for [Obama] to use that word.”

Nixon went on: “In my honest opinion, if the first black president can’t say that word, then there’s something wrong with this country.”
