Ken Blackwell, a former U.S. ambassador to the United Nations, best-selling author and the senior fellow for family empowerment at the Family Research Center, sent out a crystal clear warning during a recent Joe Miller radio broadcast about the state of religious liberty in America: We’re under attack, he said.
And a great deal of this attack on religious freedom has occurred under President Obama, due to his own White House policies and campaigns, Blackwell said.
“The Obama administration and the left,” he said, “they see the Constitution as always being malleable … They don’t see it as an enduring document that when it needs to be changed, there are prescribed methods to change it.”
That leads to an uptick in the federal courts’ powers, to the point where the judicial system has taken on more than its constitutional right, he said.
“We’re watching them change the culture from the bench. The courts are now starting to be arbiters of culture, not the people,” Blackwell said, discussing the ongoing battle of traditional marriage versus “gay marriage.”
Blackwell said all this cultural upheaval the nation’s facing is due to one basic premise: “Instead of a God-centered culture, we have a government centered culture,” he said.
“We’re all invested with certain human rights, not by government, but by God,” Blackwell said. “But Obama’s turned it on its head. He wants us to believe it’s government who gave rights.”
Blackwell also said he believed “religious liberty is the quintessential human right among all our human rights,” but that the last 20 years of leftist campaigning has been bruising.
“This rapid expansion of the welfare system … is not unlike any of the welfare expansions in totalitarian regimes throughout human history, and those regimes have done two things,” he said. “[First] to weaken the family, and two, to silence the church. And sure enough, that’s what the Obama administration is doing.”
Blackwell’s advice?
“If you tear down the family, you silence the church, you change the nature of who we are as a people,” he said. “As we are told in the scriptures, be unafraid. Take a stand. Show up, punch holes in the darkness by making sure you hold your special light high and strong.”
