A Milwaukee County, Wisconsin, woman who lives near a man accused of shooting a Wauwatosa police detective has leapt to the suspect’s defense, saying the shooting of an officer is hardly “wrong,” but rather tit-for-tat.
Police arrested Najee Harmon, 19, after they found him hiding in the basement of the woman’s home a few days ago and charged him in connection with a June 16 armed robbery. He is also believed to be the suspect who shot and injured a detective from the local force, though charges in that accusation are still pending.
In the meantime, a local television journalist covering the case interviewed the suspect’s neighbor, Stephanie King, and her remarks on the matter were somewhat shocking.
WISN reporter Colleen Henry asked King, “Did you say (to Harmon), ‘You better get out of here?’ Didn’t they arrest you or anything for harboring a fugitive?”
King seemed puzzled and answered, “No, ‘cause I ain’t harboring no fugitive.”
“He’s a good friend of ours. I’m not going to throw him to the wolves,” King said, during the interview.
And on the matter of the allegations about Harmon shooting a detective, she said: “I still love him today, today and today. I will keep loving him. To me, he didn’t do no wrong. He just shot a cop. Everbody come around when he shoot the cop but when cop shoot the people, do [they] come around?”
The detective is still in the hospital, but recovering well from his injuries, the news outlet reported.
