(WASHINGTONTIMES) — The Obama administration refused to say Wednesday how many people had their most personal information stolen from the government’s security background check systems, leaving frustrated members of Congress wondering whether the breach could extend to 32 million Americans.
Office of Personnel Management Director Katherine Archuleta said her investigation isn’t complete so she can’t say whether all 32 million current and former federal employees were affected by the breach, which happened in 2014 but wasn’t discovered until this year.
“So it could be as high as 32 million?” said House Oversight Committee Chairman Jason Chaffetz, Utah Republican.
“I will not give a number,” Ms. Archuleta retorted.
