Bobby Jindal preps to enter race

Jindal

Gov. Bobby Jindal

Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal is announcing a run for the White House on Wednesday, but political watchers say he’s going to have to work hard to get national notice in an already crowded Republican field.

The latest Wall Street Journal/NBC News survey only found one likely Republican out of 236 who were polled who would actually choose Jindal for president. And he didn’t fare much better in a Suffolk University poll of Republicans in New Hampshire: Only two of 500 said they’d vote for him.

But Jindal remains optimistic and touts a message of hope and inspiration – despite the fact voters in his own state only give him a 30 percet approval rating.

“When the front-runners are still clumped together around 10 percent, what that tells me there is a path wide open for folkds,” he said, in an interview a week ago with the Wall Street Journal. “I get the sense that voters are saying this isn’t about just one good impression.”

Jindal is opposed to gay marriage and abortion, and brings a strong religious freedom message on the campaign trail.

Others in the race: Sens. Ted Cruz, Marco Rubio, Rand Paul and Lindsey Graham; former Gov. Mike Huckabee; former Sen. Rick Santorum; former Gov. George Pataki; former business executive Carly Fiorina; billionaire businessman Donald Trump; former neurosurgeon Ben Carson; former Gov. Jeb Bush; and former Gov. Rick Perry.

Likely to enter are Gov. Scott Walker and Gov. Chris Christie.

Jindal is due to announce in the New Orleans suburb of Kenner, the Washington Post reported.
