I’m starting to feel badly for White House Press Secretary Josh Earnest. The man in charge of explaining President Barack Obama’s frequently inexplicable administration, Earnest has to dive in front of the flak aimed at his boss. Given Obama’s flight patterns, the poor little dude has taken a ton. After the beating he took during his attempt to explain Obama’s secret — and very illegal — cash payment of $400 million to Iran, I wouldn’t be surprised if Earnest is looking forward to the end of the Obama Era as much as anyone not named Hillary Clinton.
Who could blame him? Obama traipses around the globe, accepting Nobel Prizes, fighting so-called “climate change” and taking selfies. Earnest gets stuck at home, explaining how Obama’s legacy-building deal with Iran, already worth $150 billion to one of the world’s leading suppliers of Islamofascism, had a secret back-end fee of $400 million.
Even worse, Obama promised the extra scratch, which was airlifted into Teheran on wooden pallets in the middle of the night, was totally not ransom for the Americans who were released from the Ayatollah’s clutches at the same time. That left poor Josh without even a semi-plausible excuse as to why the President, who doesn’t negotiate with terrorists and guaranteed Iran will never develop nuclear weapons, just wrapped up negotiations with terrorists which will leave them with more than enough dough to develop nuclear weapons.
Instead, Earnest insisted the cash was part of a $1.7 billion debt the U.S. has owed Iran related to a weapons deal which predates the Islamofascist government which took over the theocracy in 1979. Obama got caught red-handed repudiating his own already-tragicomic foreign policy, so Earnest had to try and sell the plebes on the idea that it was purely coincidence that Obama decided the best time to make good on an almost 40 year-old IOU to guys who live by the guiding principle “Death to America.” See, that way, Obama isn’t going back on his word about not negotiating with terrorists!
In fact, said Earnest, it’s critics of Obama’s love of funneling taxpayer money to Iran who are “making common cause” with Iran. Secretly airmailing enough jack to endow a midsize college, after previously handing over enough to endow the entire Ivy League, all in return for a promise to “maybe not build nuclear weapons unless the Ayatollah changes his mind” is statesmanship. Suggesting that’s the kind of thinking that moved North Korea from “crazy” to “radioactive” is obstructionist; or maybe “Islamophobic;” probably both.
Right; and that Nigerian prince only needs my bank account number for a few seconds, and then I’ll be kicking back on my own private island.
This job sent Earnest’s predecessors scurrying for the private sector as fast as their resumes could carry them. Robert Gibbs is slinging Big Macs, and Jay Carney carries water for Jeff Bezos. And those two cats were ranked above Earnest on the depth chart before shilling for Obama ground them down. It’s almost enough to make me pity the poor fella. Then again, he took the job.
