NBA called out for being ‘hypocritical’ on gender

The NBA has announced it is moving its 2017 all-star event out of Charlotte, North Carolina, because of that state’s law protecting women and children in public restrooms, and in the course of doing so has earned the dubious honor of being called “unreasonable and hypocritical.”

“The NBA has abandoned common sense and put politics ahead of principle,” said Kellie Fiedorek, legal counsel for the Alliance Defending Freedom late Thursday.

“The North Carolina privacy law, which protects girls and women from being forced to share locker rooms and showers with men, is completely reasonable. Pulling the 2017 all-star game from Charlotte is unreasonable and hypocritical.”

At issue is the league’s politically correct intolerance for HB2, the state’s new law that essentially requires people to use the public restroom or shower room in facilities that have them of their corresponding physical gender.

Unless they have the appropriate treatments and surgeries and have their gender changed on their state records.

That means, those who allege they are “transgender,” such as men who dress in women’s clothing and say they are women, are not allowed in women’s showers.

That very action is part of Barack Obama’s newest sexual agenda campaign – demanding that states, schools, colleges – just about everyone – adopt the belief that males should be allowed to shower with women and little girls, and women should be allowed to shower with men and little boys, if they say they are of the opposite gender.

But how is the NBA hypocritical?

“If the NBA actually believed that there is no difference between men and women, it would merge its two leagues. Twenty years ago, the NBA recognized the innate and obvious biological differences between men and women when it created the WNBA. Today, the NBA hopes no one notices that it properly maintains separate leagues for men and women while it opposes the commonsense law that simply protected the dignity interests and privacy rights of North Carolinians,” Fiedorek said.

“Twenty-three other states explicitly support the freedom of states to set their own policies and laws regarding locker rooms and restrooms. Even New Orleans, the alternative city often mentioned as a host for next year’s all-star game, allows for ‘separate bathroom, restroom, shower or similar facilities for males and females’ in its local ordinance. The NBA should stick to what it does best – showcasing the world’s greatest professional athletes and serving its diverse fan base – rather than showcasing its amateur political posturing and serving the narrow-minded power elite.”

USA Today commented that the NBA decision was “unprecedented and monumental.”

The league claimed in a statement, “While we recognize that the NBA cannot choose the law in every city, state, and country in which we do business, we do not believe we can successfully host our all-star festivities in Charlotte in the climate created by HB2.”

The Charlotte Hornets, the men-only basketball team located in the city, said, “We understand the NBA’s decision and the challenges around holding the NBA all-star game in Charlotte this season. There was an exhaustive effort from all parties to keep the event in Charlotte, and we are disappointed we were unable to do so.”

The team pointed out that the NBA was trying to lure the state into changing its law by suggesting the 2019 game could be there – “provided there is an appropriate resolution to this matter,” the league said.

The NBA couldn’t say immediately where the 2017 game will be.

How did America get from “Mayberry” to “gay marriage?” Here’s the explanation, in “A Queer Thing Happened to America: And What a Long, Strange Trip It’s Been.”

The law was written and adopted by state lawmakers and signed by Gov. Patrick McCrory. It technically prohibits any locality from passing ordinances giving special protections to lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender citizens.

It was prompted by a Charlotte ordinance that would have opened the doors of public facilities, restrooms and showers, to anyone who said they were that sex.

Franklin Graham, the chief of Samaritan’s Purse and son of the famed evangelist Billy Graham, also chimed in on the issue. But he went a step further, calling for people to simply not watch the game

“It’s a shame that the NBA announced today that they’re pulling their 2017 all-star game from Charlotte … The fact is this – the North Carolina legislators and Gov. Pat McCrory are exactly right for protecting the state’s women and children from pedophiles and sexually disturbed people who are looking for opportunities to take advantage,” he said.

“This is basic common sense, but the NBA cares more about being perceived as politically correct and catering to sexual activists who are trying to use this situation as a scare tactic to gain leverage to change North Carolina’s law.”

He continued, “I think the NBA needs to realize that the safety of women and children is far more important than a ball game. They have every right to have their games anywhere they chose, but to move out of North Carolina to try to ‘punish’ the state for protecting women and children is wrong. There are millions of Christians who love to watch basketball – and I’m one of them – but I can tell you now, I’m not going to watch their all-star game and I hope thousands of others will tell them that they’re not going to watch either. You can let the NBA know on their Facebook page that you’re not going to watch. And we need to let the sponsors of this all-star game know that we don’t agree with this decision and don’t have to buy their products.”

In USA Today, McCrory, whom the news organization accused of signing the “discriminatory” bill, said the “elites” have been misrepresenting the state’s law.

“The sports and entertainment elite, Attorney General Roy Cooper and the liberal media have for months misrepresented our laws and maligned the people of North Carolina simply because most people believe boys and girls should be able to use school bathrooms, locker rooms and showers without the opposite sex present,” McCrory said.

He pointed out that 21 other states already have joined North Carolina in fighting the federal open-showers mandate.

“Left-wing special interest groups have no moral authority to try and intimidate the large majority of American parents who agree in common-sense bathroom and shower privacy for our children. American families should be on notice that the selective corporate elite are imposing their political will on communities in which they do business, thus bypassing the democratic and legal process.”
