At least 15 people, and possibly as many as about 19, people were killed early on Tuesday in Japan, while it still was Monday in America, by a man who “went on a rampage” at a facility for the disabled.
Fox News quoted the Japanese broadcaster NHK in reporting police were summoned to the facility in Sagmihara just after 2:30 a.m.
Details remained sketchy, and the report said police confirmed the man “then turned himself in.”
They also could provide no immediate motive for the attack.
But the death toll follows recent shootings in Munich, Germany, where nearly a dozen lives were lost to a rampaging gunman, the truck assault in Nice, France, which cost more than 80 lives, and more.
The Daily Mail put the death toll at 19, with another 45 injured.
“It is believed the attacker went into a center for disabled people in the city of Sagamihara, west of Tokyo, brandishing a knife,” the report said.
The center was identified as Tsukiu Yamahyuri Garden.
Officers said in the report the man who was arrested was a former member of the staff.
