PHILADELPHIA – While Hillary Clinton and her minions mouth platitudes from the podium about giving working Americans a raise, a major Democrat donor and Clinton crony is giving workers in Philadelphia the finger.
The company that owns Oreos shut a landmark bakery in northeast Philadelphia, axing 350 workers who made products under Nabisco, Standard Brands and Kraft labels, as well as drivers and others whose livelihoods depended on the plant.
Snack-food conglomerate Mondolez Global will be making Oreos in a government-subsidized plant in northern Mexico, where workers earn far less than Americans are paid.
This prompted Donald Trump to boycott Oreos, despite the fact that the iconic black-and-white cookie is one of his favorite snacks.
But the outsourcing of Oreo production to Mexico would have never happened if not for Bill and Hillary Clinton.
The Clintons are responsible for the NAFTA superhighway that has turned thousands of American jobs into road kill.
Also responsible: Nelson Peltz, donor to the Democratic Party and the Clinton Foundation.
Peltz is a major investor in Mondolez and has given more than $200,000 to Democrats in the Clinton years alone.
According to foundation records Peltz also forked over between $25,000 and $50,000 to the Clinton Family Foundation.
The Oreo bakery’s neighborhood tells the story of how manufacturing provided a good living for Americans of all backgrounds. The world’s No. 1 producer of food cans is located across the street from the Nabisco plant.
The folks who worked in these facilities lived and raised families nearby in Normandy, Philadelphia’s version of Levittown.
Now, the Oreo plant has been sold and portions are slated to be razed.
The real estate agent who brokered the deal understands what’s being lost.
“The city always wants to try to retain as much of the industrial as it can across the city,” Rich Gorodesky of Colliers International told Philadelphia magazine. “It provides diversity and better paying jobs.”
Gorodesky also handled the sale of another iconic Philadelphia industrial property once the home of the Budd Company.
The Budd Company plant turned out artillery shells for World War Two. After the war it produced rail cars for mass transit systems including the Long Island Railroad, and chassis frames for the automobile industry.
That plant is now a golf course.
Mondelez earned more than $3 billion in profits for Peltz and other investors in 2014.
