Lou Holtz
Lou Holtz of Notre Dame fame – who coached his team to a 100-32-2 record and came in second only to Knute Rockne in total number of wins – gave his thumbs-up to Donald Trump in a widely distributed video, just hours before the crucial Indiana primary for president.
Holtz, who now serves as a sports analyst for ESPN, said in his video, while wearing a Notre Dame rugby shirt: “Greetings, I’m Lou Holtz, and I wholeheartedly endorse Donald Trump as the next president of the United States. There are nothing but winners in Indiana.”
And his reason for the endorsement touched on Trump’s “make America great again” mantra.
“The main reason I’m endorsing him, I’ve played on his golf course, I’ve stayed in his hotel. He does nothing but go first-class in everything. He wants hist country to be first-class as well,” Holtz said.
Trump responded in a tweet.
“Honored to have received the endorsement of Lou Holtz – a great guy! #INPrimay #Trump2016,” Trump wrote.
Rockne, who coached at Notre Dame decades ago, is generally regarded as one of the greatest college football coaches in history. Holtz, in addition to serving at Notre Dame, also coached at William & Mary, North Carolina State, Arkansas and Minnesota, and then South Carolina.
Trump recently received the endorsement of another Indiana coaching great, Bobby Knight, of Hoosiers’ basketball fame.
