Newspaper reports ‘happy’ end to Obama presidency

Citing recent polls and anecdotal evidence of the ongoing frustrations that have marked U.S.-Israeli relations in recent years, staffers with the prominent Israel Today said in a blunt op-ed that the general feeling among Israelis is that President Obama’s looming departure from the White House spells nothing but better times for the Jewish state.

“Everyone knows that the current Israeli and American governments don’t get along very well. And the Obama Administration’s hostility toward Jerusalem only seems to be increasing it its waning days,” the staff of Israel Today wrote, in a piece entitled “Israelis Happy That Obama’s Almost Gone.”

And they went on, citing how vice president Joe Biden recently referred to his dealings with Prime Minister Benjanmin Netanyahu as a lesson in “overwhelming frustration,” and accused the Jewish leader of “moving Israel in the wrong direction.’”

But the feelings are mutual, the staffers said.

“In survey results published this week,” the op-ed went on, “Israelis signaled that the feeling was mutual concerning President Barack Obama and his handling of American affairs. Conducted on behalf of Israel’s Channel One News, the poll found that a solid 51 percent of Israelis believe that no matter who wins the upcoming U.S. presidential election, the end result will be a positive change for the Jewish state.”

Thhe survey also found only eight percent believed U.S.-Israeli relations could get any worse, regardless of who won the election, than currently under Obama.

“More Israelis feel [Hillary] Clinton will be overall better for their nation, though a plurality acknowledges that Netanyahu will get along better on a personal level with [Donald] Trump,” the op-ed wrapped.
