Donald Trump was characterized as a petulent child who picked up his marbles and went home for dropping out of the Fox News GOP presidential debate prior to the Iowa caucuses.
Now he wants to take Ted Cruz’s marbles, too … or more to the point, take away Cruz’s Iowa victory.
The billionaire candidate is accusing Cruz of “voter fraud” and is saying he will likely file a complaint over the outcome of the Iowa caucuses, reported the Hill.
Cruz surprised pollsters by beating the predicted-to-win Trump 27.6 to 24.3. The victory was marred by members of the Cruz campaign forwarding an erroneous tweet before the caucuses were completed saying Dr. Ben Carson would drop out of the presidential contest. Cruz has apologized for the “mistake.”
Trump criticized Cruz for both the original tweet and the apology, calling it “one of the most disgusting things I’ve ever seen.
“What he did is unthinkable,” said Trump, accusing Cruz of “voter fraud” and being a “fraudulent character.”
“He said the man has left the race and he said it during the caucus. And then when clarification was put out by Ben Carson saying it’s untrue, they got a statement and they didn’t put it out. They apologized after the caucus was over. How does that help?”
Trump’s position is that would-be Carson voters threw their support to Cruz when their candidate “dropped out,” giving Cruz his victory over Trump.
Asked if he would sue, Trump told Boston Herald Radio, “I probably will.”
Wednesday, Trump sent a series of tweets criticizing Cruz and calling for a new election or nullification of the results: “Based on the fraud committed by Senator Ted Cruz during the Iowa Caucus, either a new election should take place or Cruz results nullified.”
