Chris Christie has lost weight since this photo, but one lawmaker, supporting Sen. Marco Rubio for president, took potshots at the New Jersey governor’s weight just the same.
Rep. Darrell Issa, who stands firmly in the presidential camp of Sen. Marco Rubio’s, slung some snarky comments Chris Christie’s way during a Boston Herald Radio interview, bluntly calling out the New Jersey governor’s weight and labeling him fat.
The congressman made the comments while defending Rubio, a candidate he endorsed for president back in November.
“He [Rubio] was told in sort of a domineering fashion by a slightly older, slightly overweight governor,” Issa said, the Hill reported. “OK, it wasn’t slightly. He’s a lot overweight.”
Issa went on, speaking of the barrage of attacks Christie unleashed at him during the Saturday evening Republican debate.
“Instead of attacking back at his opponent,” Issa said, “and berating him, he started talking about what he thought mattered.”
And what mattered was Obama’s failings as president, Issa said, referring to Rubio’s pivot off Christie’s verbal attacks back to Obama.
“[Christie seemed to be] auditioning to be Donald Trump’s running mate,” Issa said, the Hill reported.
The debate was widely seen as a fall from grace for Rubio, who was derided by Christie, and mocked later by the press, for offering patriotic platitudes at times when direct answers to questions were warranted, as WND reported.
