(WASHINGTON TIMES) Meeting with the nation’s governors, President Obama made a joking reference Sunday night to his feud with Senate Republicans over allowing a confirmation vote on his upcoming Supreme Court nominee.
“Tonight, I plan to fulfill my duty and give you an indisputably qualified set of remarks,” Mr. Obama told the governors at a White House dinner. “I trust that you’ll give them a fair hearing.”
Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, Kentucky Republican, and other Republican lawmakers are vowing to block Mr. Obama’s eventual nominee to replace the late Justice Antonin Scalia, saying the next president should choose a candidate next year. The president says the Senate should fulfill its constitutional duty to give his nominee a fair hearing.
