Miffed Beck calls Trump supporters ‘brownshirts’

There’s no love lost between radio host Glenn Beck and GOP presidential candidate Donald Trump, so there’s no way their crossing paths Tuesday evening during the Nevada caucus voting was ever going to turn out good.

But “brownshirts”?

Widely reported as Trump “crashing” an event where Beck was speaking, the truth was that Trump was visiting a number of caucus sites seeking support. When he arrived at Palo Verde High School in Summerlin, Beck happened to be speaking at the podium in support of Ted Cruz. According to eyewitnesses, Beck had the attention of only a small portion of the large crowd assembled to cast their ballots.

When Trump entered the room, the crowds flocked to where he was to listen to his improptu speech.

“We are going to have hopefully a historic night,” Trump said. “I appreciate everybody being here. I wanted to be here myself and say a few words.”

Beck was left without his audience, but not without an ax to grind.

Throughout the day Wednesday, Beck attacked Trump supporters over his upstaging, referring to them as “brownshirts” in a posting titled “Silence in the Face of Evil is Evil Itself,” reported Mediaite.

He wrote: “There is a storm coming of biblical proportions, a storm coming beyond your recognition. When the economy collapses, when our currency is worth toilet paper, who do you want, who do you want handling our nation? You want somebody who has divided us, who is grooming brownshirts? I was at the caucus last night. I had never seen anything like it. These Trump supporters were beyond recognition as anything I’ve ever seen — rude, vile, nasty.”

Trump himself denied any intention to crash Beck’s speech Wednesday morning to Fox News’ “Fox & Friends.”

“No, I didn’t, but when I walked in I saw that [Beck] was in the podium, and there were thousands of people in the room, not too many listening to him,” Trump said., “He’s not a very good guy to listen to, frankly. He’s boring.”

Trump said “the place went crazy” wen he walked in and people rushed to where he stood, leaving Beck behind.

“They all ran away from him … and he was standing up there talking to nobody, and he steamed out of the room,” Trump said. “And I didn’t do it on purpose, but I happened to be there, and … I bet 90 percent on the people in that particular area were with us.”
