Senate Minority Leader Harry Reid made a curious admission during an interview with a nationally circulated newspaper, saying he loves to watch sports because it helps him relax – and what he loves especially is to see the Washington Redskins lose.
“I love sports, it’s an escape for me,” he told the Washington Post. “But not football. The only time I turn football on during the week, because [Colin] Kaepernick it out, is when the Redskins play, because I love to see them lose.”
Kaepernick is a former University of Nevada star, from the state where Reid hails, who now quarterbacks for the San Francisco 49ers. He was benched for Blaine Baggert, however, and since, “the 49ers have been more than four points better,” as the Big Lead reported.
But to Reid, the Redskins’ and what he’s previously called a “racist” name is the bigger concern than his home-state football hero.
“They’ve lost more than they’ve won this year. If they’re ahead, I turn it off. I check back later to see if they’re losing,” he said, the Hill reported, then adding about the Redskins’ name: “They have to give it up. It’s a loser for them.”
Reid has been a vocal critic of the Redskins’ team name, calling for a change on the floor of the Senate. As the Hill reported, he previously slammed the team for a “racist franchise name that denigrates Native Americans across the country.”
