Major League Baseball is in the midst of a concerted effort to increase the number of LGBT employees in team front offices, leading at least one author and journalist to note such a policy inherently discriminates against heterosexual job seekers.
“This kind of recruitment might make sense in the fashion business or in interior design, but in Major League Baseball it is absurd, offensive and borderline illegal,” said Jack Cashill, author of “Scarlet Letters: The Ever-Increasing Intolerance of the Cult of Liberalism Exposed.”
“Hiring is a zero-sum game. To recruit a gay worker is to ignore a straight one. What is the justification here?”
Indeed, 21 states and the District of Columbia currently prohibit discrimination based on sexual orientation for both public and private-sector employment.
The man at the forefront of the recruiting push is Billy Bean, MLB’s ambassador for inclusion and an openly “gay” former player. Since being hired in July 2014, Bean has worked to “build a safe workplace” for people of all races, genders and sexual orientations.
The latter has been his primary area of focus, with his goal being to “help end homophobia in the locker rooms, front offices, on the fields and in the stands,” according to Outsports.com.
Bean is using baseball’s Diversity Business Summit as a central cog in his plan. Established in 2012, the annual summit serves essentially as a job fair for diverse job seekers (women, racial minorities, homosexuals) who want to work in an MLB team’s front office, as well as minority business owners who want to win a contract from a team.
Bean has personally recruited LGBT attendees for the next summit, to be held in March 2016, and has reached out to several organizations to ensure a large turnout of LGBT candidates. In lieu of an active MLB player willing to come out of the closet, Bean hopes to place several LGBT individuals in front offices to project an inclusive image for the league.
Paul Kengor, a college professor and author of “Takedown: From Communists to Progressives, How the Left Has Sabotaged Family and Marriage,” lamented the corruption of America’s national pastime by political correctness.
“Where have you gone, Joe DiMaggio?” Kengor mourned. “For the forces of ‘tolerance’ and ‘diversity,’ everything is political and ideological. Even baseball becomes a struggle in the left’s cultural revolution. America’s national pastime becomes a battleground in the left’s ever-widening playing field of propaganda.”
Kengor fears the LGBT hiring push will be used as a cudgel to bully socially conservative employees.
“Any poor soul in whatever MLB front-office who dares to let slip a statement or email disapproving of this, including for religious reasons, will be placed in the dock as a vile bigot, as a fire-breathing homophobe, as a man of red-hot hate,” the professor warned. “He will find himself on the left’s new blacklist, another crude poster-boy of ‘hate.’”
According to Outsports.com, Bean said, “Everyone has been waiting for the next player to come out, but I want to have huge numbers of diversity on the business side of the sport, so baseball becomes a result of what it is on the business side.”
But Bean’s plan will necessitate discrimination against qualified heterosexual candidates, Cashill pointed out.
“This policy makes a lie out of the ‘equal opportunity’ signs posted everywhere in which the teams promise NOT to hire on the basis of sexual orientation,” said Cashill, a WND columnist. “If diversity is the goal, why not hire a few gay players, a few woman players as well?”
David Kupelian, author of “The Snapping of the American Mind,” sees MLB’s push for more LGBT employees as part of a longer trend.
“Today, we hear that homosexuality and transgenderism are being not only accepted, but celebrated and sought after, in the pro baseball world,” Kupelian said. “Before that it was Michael Sam being publicly congratulated by Barack Obama for being the first openly gay NFL football player.
“Before that it was the Boy Scouts of America, who after more than a century of ‘morally straight’ ideals for young men, and despite having the blessing of the U.S. Supreme Court, nevertheless caved in to LGBT demands and allowed homosexuals to become scouts and adult leaders. Everywhere you look, big-money enterprises with a lot on the line are not just accepting but championing the LGBT agenda.”
But the real question, according to Kupelian, is why is this happening? Some might say it’s because society is evolving toward greater justice, diversity and equal rights for sexual minorities, but Kupelian said that’s not the answer.
“What is really causing all these multibillion-dollar companies, sports franchises, etc., to support the LGBT agenda,” he said, “is years and years of pressure, boycotts and boycott threats, lawsuits and lawsuit threats, relentless intimidation, criminal prosecution, and endless mockery, ridicule and demonization of Christians and other traditionalists who try to stand firm on America’s core Judeo-Christian values.
“These big enterprises want to stay in business; they don’t want boycotts, litigation, picketers outside their headquarters, or bad PR. They want to make money, and they don’t want controversy. That’s what it’s all about.”
Kengor agreed progressives’ assault on Christianity is at the center of MLB’s effort at LGBT inclusion.
“I must warn devout Christians in MLB front-offices to watch themselves very carefully,” Kengor cautioned. “These cultural big brothers will be watching you. If you let your politically unacceptable feelings be shown, you will be targeted and you will be smeared.
“And of course, it will be done under the magic rainbow of ‘tolerance’ and ‘diversity.’ It’s tolerance and diversity for me but not for thee. If you disagree with their version of tolerance, you will not be tolerated. You will be demonized and destroyed.”
