Sen. Lincoln Chafee, one of the last-place candidates for president in the Democratic Party primary, dropped his bid for the White House Friday.
Citing sluggish fundraising, the former Rhode island governor also announced he was going to speak formally on his dropped bid during a Democratic National Committee Women’s Leadership Forum in Washington, D.C.
In the meantime, his campaign released portions of his upcoming remarks, CNN reported: “As you know I have been campaigning on a platform of Prosperity Through Peace. But after much thought I have decided to end my campaign for president today. I would like to take this opportunity one last time to advocate for a chance be given to peace.”
Chafee had declared his run for the presidency in June. He spent most of his political life as a Republican but switched to independent when he ran for governor of Rhode Island.
