Hillary, you’ve got some explaining to do

A solid majority of likely U.S. voters want Democratic presidential candidate to shut up with the lame excuses and half apologies and make a real effort to explain why she decided to use a private email server to handled sensitive State Department communications. Many of those voters see her evasion as a clear sign of guilt.

According to Rasmussen, 59 percent of Americans believe that Clinton’s email practices at the State Department were done in violation of federal laws. Just 34 percent, meanwhile, buy Clinton’s “What I did was allowed” excuse.

The number of people who think she broke the law is also high, at 37 percent, when only Democrats’ opinions are logged.

But Clinton’s biggest problem is with Republicans and independents, who say she broke the law 82 percent and 63 percent of the time, respectively.

The polling results suggest that the former secretary of state could improve her appeal, or at least salvage some image of respectability, with voters of all political backgrounds with a clear and believable answer as to why she used a secret private server for official government business. That’s illustrated by the fact that 51 percent of voters say that she has provided only a “poor” explanation for her actions. Those same actions, according to 54 percent of likely voters, put the nation at serious risk.
