Austin-area police are on alert after one officer found a Black Lives Matter sign in the bathroom of one of the store’s he was visiting that called on readers to “shoot the cops.”
The full text of the memo, as shown on the Austin Police Association’s Facebook page, read: “Shoot the cops. Oink oink bang bang. Black Lives Matter.”
The Facebook post also warned fellow officers the sign was “found in south Austin” and to “watch your backs.”
The officer who discovered the sign was in the store to take a police report, People’s Pundit Daily reported.
“I’m pretty disappointed that it was not reported by the actual business itself and it’s unfortunate to have an officer uncover that,” Austin Police Association president Ken Casady said to KXAN-TV. “People are certainly allowed to give their opinion, but when you call for the death of people, that is absolutely not acceptable.”
The news outlet said officers have filed a criminal mischeif report.
The sign comes on the heels of a meeting between Austin Police Chief Art Acevedo and members of both the local Black Lives Matter and Police Lives Matter movements to talk about planned rallies for this weekend. Acevedo actually said after the meeting Black Lives Matter invidividuals have received unfair coverage, like at their recent protest at the Minnesota State Fair that captured some on video shouting, “Pigs in a blanket, fry ‘em like bacon.”
Acevedo said to KVUE: “There’re some people trying to hijack that movement by saying things like ‘we should go kill cops,’ ‘we should just kill white people.’ That’s just crazy people, those aren’t legitimate members of Black Lives Matter.”
