WASHINGTON – The day before the first GOP presidential debate was not a strong one for the stumbling, bumbling campaign of the once-presumptive Democratic nominee.
It was the day the public learned the FBI has launched an investigation into the type of security Hillary Clinton used to safeguard the private email system she set up in her New York home while serving as secretary of state. The inquiries followed concerns from government officials that potentially hundreds of emails that passed through the server contained classified or sensitive information.
It was the day a group of former special operations forces and intelligence community members called on the State Department to revoke “any and all security clearances” still held by former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and her confidants in the wake of revelations Clinton used a private email server to transfer classified information. OPSEC, an advocacy group comprised of former intelligence and security officials, petitioned Secretary of State John Kerry on Tuesday to revoke classified privileges for Clinton, as well as her former chief of staff Cheryl Mills, her former deputy chief of staff Jake Sullivan, and her top adviser Huma Abedin, according to a copy of the letter. Clinton may have violated at least four laws governing the exchange of sensitive information, according to OPSEC.
It was the day the public learned that America’s wealthy elite don’t just contribute to Hillary Clinton’s campaign, they also like another establishment figure – Jeb Bush. Among the 60 richest hedging their bets are racetrack owners, bankers, media giants, chicken-industry executives and hedge fund players.
It was the day her latest effort at a contrived and force southern accent she used in a recent interview with Jaime Harison, the chairman of the South Carolina Democratic Party.

It was the day her “body woman,” Huma Abedin – the wife of former Rep. Anthony Weiner of New York – may have officially become a political liability. She has come under scrutiny for pocketing a $33,000 payout from the State Department for unused leave and using her simultaneous employment inside and outside of government to “deliver favors” to Clinton cronies. That makes at least four scandals touching the woman who serves as vice-chairman of the 2016 Clinton campaign, not counting her husband – misuse of taxpayer funds, the email hiccup and that little matter of deep Muslim Brotherhood ties. But then a fourth one broke. It seems she took on the organization of an event in 2012 to honor famed designer Oscar de la Renta at the Clinton library in Little Rock, Arkansas, while she was being paid for taxpayers for State Department work. Meanwhile, an internal State Department probe recently found that Abedin got paid with taxpayer funds for days she was working for the Clinton Foundation and a Clinton-linked lobbying firm or while vacationing in Europe with her famous husband. That makes three jobs Abedin held at the same time but still she had time for vacations in Europe.
It was the day Joe Biden looked more and more like a challenger to the once-presumptive nominee. The vice president was preparing for his first donor event in L.A. – one day before Clinton held her own Hollywood party.
It was the day the polls showed Sen. Bernie Sanders, socialist of Vermont, neck and neck with Clinton in New Hampshire. The poll also found that Sanders is the most popular Democratic candidate in the state in terms of favorability, with a rating of 59 percent. That tops Hillary Clinton’s 54 percent.
And if all that wasn’t enough, it was the day even a visit to Starbucks might have been enough to turn Clinton’s stomach – as the coffee giant’s chief executive officer, Howard Schultz, continued to flirt with a bid for the Democratic presidential nomination.
