(KY3) — SPRINGFIELD, Missouri – Springfield police arrested a man early Sunday after a woman and witnesses said he tried to rape the woman at knifepoint near downtown. Marvin Castellanos-Rivera, 26, is charged with attempted rape but he told police that he was in or near a bar “a majority of the night” and couldn’t have attacked the woman.
The woman told police that she was walking north on Market Avenue near College Street while talking on her cellular telephone shortly after midnight Sunday. She said a man came up behind her, pushed her into a wall, grabbed her cell phone, covered her mouth, and held a knife to her throat.
The woman said she screamed for help while the man pulled her across the street into an alley. She said she saw a man riding a bicycle and yelled for help but the man kept riding and looked at here “like he did not know what to do,” according to the probable cause statement against Castellanos-Rivera.
