Jim Webb
Former Virginia Sen. Jim Webb has officially jumped into the presidential race, declaring his Democratic candidacy on his website.
Webb only spent one term in the Sentate and then called its quits. On his website, he called for a “fresh approach” in the White House and said the nation needed someone to stand strong in the face of “shadow elites [in] our political process.”
Webb faces off against former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and self-declared socialist Sen. Bernie Sanders, who formally represents as an Independent. By contrast, the Republican field is in the double-digits.
He said he doesn’t care about polls, which put him in the single-digits.
“I understand the odds, particularly in today’s political climate where fair debate is so often drowned out by huge sums of money,” he said in the statement. “I know that more than one candidate in this process intends to raise at least a billion dollars — some estimates run as high as two billion dollars — in direct and indirect financial support.”
He went on: “Our fellow Americans need proven, experienced leadership that can be trusted to move us forward from a new President’s first days in office.”
