Dr. Deborah Nucatola talked openly over lunch about partial birth abortion and compensation for baby body parts in the first of two undercover videos released by the Center for Medical Progress.
Top Republicans in Oklahoma are launching a campaign to boot Planned Parenthood from their state and shut down the abortion industry’s leading player, arresting its doctors.
Planned Parenthood still has four clinics in the state. But the newly elected chairman of the state GOP, Randy Brogdon, said in an email he is calling on Republican Gov. Mary Fallin to call a special session of the state legislature that would close down the clinics.
The tough words come in the wake of two undercover videos showing Planned Parenthood executives casually discussing the sale of baby body parts for scientific research. The transactions are considered “donations” by Planned Parenthood.
“The federal courts don’t have the authority to make us kill babies,” Brogdon said in the email. “Are the Supreme Court justices going to come down to Oklahoma and make us stop?”
Fallin didn’t indicate any plans to call a special session, but referred to the videos as “sickening,” the Washington Times reported. She also suggested an outright ban on abortion wouldn’t be likely.
“Clearly, I don’t want Planned Parenthood to perform any abortions in Oklahoma, regardless of how those abortions are paid for,” Fallin said in a statement. “However, as any pro-life activist will tell you, the biggest hurdle to protecting life in this country is the U.S. Supreme Court’s decision in Roe v. Wade, which blocked states from passing total bans on abortion.”
Time for civil disobedience?
But Brogdon does not seem to agree with Fallin’s concessions to the Supreme Court.
“It is time for Republicans to stand for the principles we claim to have and stop the killing of the unborn. The majorities of Oklahomans will support this bold action, but it will take someone to lead the fight.”
Brogdon, a former state senator, may be that man. He is a strict constitutionalist who believes strongly in states’ rights.
He once called for Oklahoma to form its own militia separate from that National Guard, and he once argued that the line “one nation, indivisible” in the Pledge of Allegiance is not constitutional.
“As Chairman of the Oklahoma Republican Party, I call on the Governor and legislators to completely end the practice of abortion in Oklahoma,” Brogdon wrote in the email, adding that the state should “[s]hut Planned Parenthood down immediately for their illegal actions, and prosecute the abortion doctors who violate their oath to ‘do no harm.’”
Oklahoma isn’t the only state pushing back against the Planned Parenthood abortion business. Eight states have now called for investigations into Planned Parenthood’s operations within their borders.
Mississippi has passed a law that, if upheld by the Supreme Court, will close the state’s last abortion clinic. A similar Texas law seeks to shut down many of the clinics in that state by placing credentialing requirements on doctors who perform abortions.
Gov. Sam Brownback, R-Kansas, has also called for state inspections of Planned Parenthood and facilities that provide abortions in Kansas to determine whether any improper transactions involving fetal tissue have been made.
Far-left media outlets such as Think Progress have been predictably slamming these efforts to reign in Planned Parenthood, calling Mississippi’s and Texas’ laws “a clever workaround Roe v. Wade.”
“Brogdon’s preferred tactic, by contrast, appears to be attacking abortion with a blunt object,” the website claims. “He’s not looking for a clever workaround to what remains of Roe v. Wade, he just wants to outright ban abortion and prosecute doctors who perform it.”
Pro-abortion forces are now openly fearing that the momentum created by the two videos could lead to a rebellion against Planned Parenthood’s abortion clinics, at least in red states.
Predicting ‘miniature Civil War’
The “freedom” to kill one’s baby trumps all other freedoms in the eyes of abortion-industry supporters, even when it appears there is at least probable cause to believe that laws were broken by the industry’s dominant provider.
“Brogdon also appears willing to openly defy court orders protecting reproductive freedom,” the leftist Think Progress opined. “It would be a major escalation in tactics if a state chose to openly defy the courts. It could also lead to a potentially dangerous struggle between the states and the federal government.”
This could escalate into “a miniature Civil War,” the website continued.
Planned Parenthood has shown no remorse for its grisly actions, opting instead to go on the attack against the undercover filmmakers.
“The real agenda of these groups is to ban abortion and cut women off from care at Planned Parenthood,” Suzanna de Baca, president and CEO of Planned Parenthood of the Heartland, which operates a clinic in Tulsa, told the Washington Times. “These insidious videos are just one more example of how low they will stoop.”
California to investigate video maker
In California, the target of investigations is not Planned Parenthood but the filmmaker who produced the two undercover videos exposing the questionable activities of the abortionists.
California Attorney General Kamala Harris, a staunch Planned Parenthood supporter, said Friday she will investigate the Center for Medical Progress, the pro-life group behind two explosive undercover videos targeting the nation’s largest abortion provider.
Harris said in a letter to four House Democrats that her office will “carefully review the allegations raised in your letter to determine whether there were any violations of California law,” the Sacramento Bee reported.
U.S. Sen. James Lankford, R-Okla., a Baptist minister, has introduced a bill that would end all federal funding for Planned Parenthood unless the organization stops performing abortions.
“The recent videos uncovering Planned Parenthood’s inhumane abortion practices have hit a nerve with many Americans,” Lankford said.
Planned Parenthood receives more than $500 million annually in public tax dollars.
