Putin: Trust me, Russia’s not dangerous

Russia President Vladimir Putin said in an interview with Italian media the world shouldn’t worry – his country is hardly a threat.

Those in the West have “no need to be afraid of Russia,” he said, in the Italian newspaper Corriere della Sera.

Putin went on, the New York Post reported: “The world has changed so much that people in their right moind cannot imagine such a large-scale military conflict today. We have other things to do, I can assure you.”

Putin then mocked those who might think Russia – which forcibly annexed part of Ukraine a few months ago, despite warnings from the West – had military designs on parts of the world.

“Only a sick person – and even then, only in his sleep – can imagine that Russia would suddenly attack NATO,” he said.

His claim comes as Russian bombers have been entering U.S. airspace with alarming frequency of late. In the past year, the number of Russian bombers that have intruded on American space has doubled, and some military experts see the increase as a clear warning from Putin to President Obama to keep quiet on Ukraine.
