Clay Aiken, the “American Idol” reality television star who turned a hopeful eye toward a political career, took to Howard Stern’s national radio show to slam the Republican who beat him in the final congressional face-off, showcasing his trash-talk talents by calling her, among other names, a “b—-.”
Aiken, also a “Celebrity Apprentice” contestant, referred to third-term Rep. Renee Ellmers as “an idiot,” the blog PerezHilton.com reported.
“She’s an idiot,” he said, “and I think her self-esteem is just in the floor, under the floor. I’m not a fan of the person I ran against in Congress, obviously.”
Other comments he made on Stern’s SiriusXM show, the Hill reported: “You should see the second episode, because she’s a b—-.” And later, he referred to her as a “condescending old snatch,” TheBacklot.com blog reported.
Aiken, an openly “gay” 36-year-old father, was supposed to be speaking about his new Esquire series, “The Runner-Up,” but talk turned quickly to politics. He also told Stern he might run for office again, “within the next decade,” he said, the Hill reported.
A spokesperson for Ellmers, Blair Ellis, said to ITK the remarks were uncalled for, though not entirely unexpected.
“Mr. Aiken’s crude language and disrespectful demeanor towards the congresswoman has proven to the American people why he is a runner-up,” Ellis said.
