Political establishment working overtime to discredit Trump success

From disregarding their own poll numbers to reaching out to Americans living overseas, the desperate media and political establishments are doing everything they possibly can to pretend GOP presidential hopeful Donald Trump isn’t gaining ground.

Last week, a poll posted to BuzzFeed was updated with an editor’s note after 97 percent of respondents told the website they plan to vote for Trump in November.

“This poll no longer accurately reflects the opinions of real people. Please remember to vote in the upcoming election,” the note said.

While that was a very obvious slight,  it isn’t exactly surprising coming from the leftist media outfit. BuzzFeed has made anti-Trump reporting a hige part of it’s campaign coverage in recent months and ended it’s advertising contract with the GOP following Trump’s nomination earlier this year.

What is a little surprising is how a number of more traditional media outlets are reacting to the Trump candidacy in recent weeks.

As the presidential election grows nearer, Americans are seeing more and more traditionally conservative newspapers throughout the country endorse the Democratic candidate for the first time in decades. In other cases, newspapers are endorsing Libertarian Gary Johnson or no one at all.

The Arizona Republic, which hasn’t endorsed a Democrat since its inception in 1890, threw in for Hillary Clinton last week.

The paper’s editorial board explained its decision thusly:

In a nation with an increasingly diverse population, Trump offers a recipe for permanent civil discord.

In a global economy, he offers protectionism and a false promise to bring back jobs that no longer exist.

America needs to look ahead and build a new era of prosperity for the working class.

This is Hillary Clinton’s opportunity. She can reach out to those who feel left behind. She can make it clear that America sees them and will address their concerns.

She can move us beyond rancor and incivility.

The Arizona Republic endorses Hillary Clinton for president.

The Detroit Free Press, meanwhile, endorsed Johnson after endorsing only Republicans for the past 143 years.

Why? Same story, Trump’s too dangerous.

From the endorsement:

The 2016 nominee offered by the Republican Party rubs hard against the editorial board’s values as conservatives and Americans. Donald Trump is unprincipled, unstable and quite possibly dangerous. He can not be president.

His Democratic opponent, Hillary Clinton, has an impressive resume and a presidential bearing. And although we disagree with her nearly across the board on the issues, we acknowledge she has the temperament to be commander-in-chief and leader of both a diverse nation and the free world.

But character matters. Her career-long struggles with honesty and ethics and calculating, self-serving approach to politics trouble us deeply.

So we find ourselves in the same position as a vast number of voters in looking for an option other than skipping the presidential portion of the ballot.

Gary Johnson meets that need. We recognize the Libertarian candidate is the longest of long shots with an electorate that has been conditioned to believe only Republicans and Democrats can win major offices.

But this is an endorsement of conscience, reflecting our confidence that Johnson would be a competent and capable president and an honorable one.

The Cincinnati Enquirer, Dallas Morning News, and Houston Chronicle, all traditionally conservative papers, endorsed Clinton.

Even USA Today, the nationally recognized paper that usually stays out of presidential politics, decided to get in on the anti-Trump action.

From the paper:

Because every presidential race is different, we revisit our no-endorsement policy every four years. We’ve never seen reason to alter our approach. Until now.

This year, the choice isn’t between two capable major party nominees who happen to have significant ideological differences. This year, one of the candidates — Republican nominee Donald Trump — is, by unanimous consensus of the Editorial Board, unfit for the presidency.
